Elite Driver Rehab is a mobile occupational therapy provider specializing in driver rehabilitation services for people of all driving ages. Driving is essential for daily life and is often the primary way people access necessary goods and services. It also contributes to quality of life by enabling people to engage in meaningful activities and social interactions with friends and family. Our mission is to support individuals in maintaining their independence on the road and assure they are safe and confident behind the wheel.
Elite Driver Rehab is owned and operated by Dustin Abram, OTR/L, CDRS. Dustin is a board certified Occupational Therapist, and he is licensed in the state of Georgia. He began his career in the field of driver rehabilitation in 2018 as a graduate student and has since been instrumental in assisting countless individuals with diverse driving challenges. Dustin has considerable education and training in the field of driver rehabilitation, including experience as a Georgia Certified Driving Instructor. He also received the highest credential attainable in the field of driver rehabilitation in 2020 to become a board Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialist (CDRS). Dustin has extensive experience performing comprehensive driving evaluations and specialized driver training to help individuals achieve their driving goals with confidence. His empathetic and analytical nature enables him to connect with his clients and develop personalized solutions for their unique situations with exceptional care.
Dustin has dedicated his professional career to the field of driver rehabilitation. He is passionate about bringing more awareness to the field and imparting his knowledge to support others. Dustin has been involved in numerous lectures and educational presentations related to driver rehabilitation, and has been involved in several driving safety initiatives, such as the Georgia Older Driver Task Force and CarFit. He is also an active member of professional associations including the Association for Driver Rehabilitation Specialists and Georgia Occupational Therapy Association.
At-Home Driving Services
Elite Driver Rehab offers convenient at-home driving services for individuals all across Georgia. Getting to medical appointments can be difficult for people without reliable transportation, especially for those living in rural areas without access to public transportation. We eliminate transportation challenges by coming to you for a hassle-free experience in the privacy and comfort of your home. With our at-home services, you can also drive on roads where you are comfortable, instead of busy city streets in unfamiliar areas.
Comprehensive Driving Evaluations
The foundation of driver rehabilitation begins with a comprehensive two-part evaluation, starting with a clinical assessment. A medical professional, like an Occupational Therapist, conducts the clinical assessment to examine abilities essential for driving and identify any health-related issues that may impact driving performance. The on-road driving assessment, which is the second part of the comprehensive evaluation, is performed after the clinical assessment is complete. Elite Driver Rehab can do both parts of the evaluation in a single appointment for your convenience, or you can choose to get a clinical assessment elsewhere and schedule the on-road assessment separately.
On-Road Driving Assessments
On-road driving assessments are considered the gold standard for determining a person’s fitness to drive, and Elite Driver Rehab’s are conducted by a Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialist. Unlike simulators or clinic-based tests, on-road driving assessments involve driving a real car on actual roads to provide a realistic impression of an individual's driving skills and safety behind the wheel. The assessment is performed in our specially modified vehicle, with safety features like an instructor brake and accelerator in the passenger area. Once the assessment is complete, individualized training plans and recommendations are provided based on the results.
Specialized Driver Training
Our specialized driver training caters to the unique needs of each person, while promoting independence, safety, and confidence behind the wheel. Using a rehabilitative approach, we help individuals of all ages and abilities maintain, regain, or begin independent driving. Whether you are a new driver with special needs, an experienced driver transitioning to adaptive equipment, or a senior needing to refresh their skills for safety, our specialized driver training covers a wide range of needs. Our focus is to improve your driving skills and safety awareness on the road to reduce accident risks and foster responsible driving habits.
Adaptive Driving Solutions
Adaptive driving solutions are custom modifications or equipment added to a vehicle to assist individuals with disabilities in safe operation. The aim is to promote driving independence by meeting the driver's unique needs in accessing and operating vehicle controls. Examples include hand controls, steering aids, wheelchair lifts, pedal and seating system modifications. Following the evaluation, our Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialist offers personalized recommendations for adaptive driving equipment and provides training to ensure you are safe and comfortable with it before installation in your vehicle. An equipment fitting is also performed to ensure that your adaptive equipment is installed and positioned according to your needs, along with guidance on state licensing requirements for adaptive driving.
